My Views on Gay Marriage

My liberal sister recently shared her thoughts with me about gay marriage and this is how I replied to her:

"I am a Christian, Conservative, Republican... in that order. My Christian faith tells me that homosexuality is immoral. Like other immoral acts, it is a sin against God that leads mankind into thinking that personal pleasure and our temporal existence is more important than everlasting life in Heaven with Jesus who gave us the gift of salvation. The corruption that can occur in the hearts of those practicing such behavior will very likely lead them to rejecting God's gift of salvation and they will, of their own will, damn themselves to an eternity in Hell. Thankfully, many who once practiced such behavior are repenting and accepting the gift of salvation that Christ offers to all souls. It saddens me that there are still many souls out there who refuse to accept such a precious gift but I pray that the Holy Spirit will enter their hearts and guide them back to Christ. It also saddens me that politicians and others in authority are making it easier for souls to be corrupted in this manner.

"As a conservative I believe in the traditional values that make up our society. I believe that marriage is an institution that strengthens our society when it follows the traditional definition of being between one man and one woman. I believe that the role of government is to help provide boundaries around human behavior so our society will prosper. Over centuries of human history it has been shown time and time again that the most successful societies are made up of families where one man and one woman raise children in a loving environment and together help train them to be prosperous as well. God created man and woman to be different for a reason. Each has certain characteristics that, together, help children to grow up to be well rounded individuals. I believe that pretending gay couples are just as capable of raising children will lead to a slow but sure decay of our culture and society as a whole.

"As a Republican I believe in individual liberty, that the voice of the people must be respected and that a select number of judges should not be allowed to dictate to the masses how to live their lives. I believe that individuals have every right to live with and love whomever they choose but that does not give them the right to force a re-definition of marriage to rationalize their own relationships. The people of California recently made this clear to the judges there and those of us in Wisconsin did the same in 2006. We the people, through our representatives in the various legislatures, make the laws and we're tired of arrogant judges forcing their views onto us."
